John Runkle Architects, PLLC, (JRA) is a unique architecture firm specializing in historic structures, with a concentration in church buildings, their furnishings and memorials. Our extensive network of contacts throughout the preservation community and the religious building arts allows JRA to bring the best talent to bear in service to our valued clients. We provide a full range of professional services in the public and private sectors. The scale of our work ranges from large institutional buildings to small private art commissions.
The success of our practice comes from more than thirty years’ experience in the practical aspects of historic preservation and new construction, combined with more than twenty years’ experience facilitating positive client involvement in the architectural process. We pride ourselves on client satisfaction and clear communications among all those involved in each project.
Our approach to historic structures is grounded in the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation (36 CFR 67). We first seek to preserve the historic building fabric when possible, conserve distinct areas when needed and rehabilitate select areas when necessary. We welcome the opportunity to design new building elements, doing so in a sympathetic manner that is visually compatible with the existing historic fabric, while at the same time, not giving the impression of false historicism. In our work, we aspire to thoughtful designs of impeccable quality, within the scope of the client’s budget.
